Every time I go out running I think of stuff to say on my blog.

One thing I think about is “Hills are my Friend”. Biggest reason is that training on hills makes racing on flat feel so easy. I typically choose races that are flatter than my home turf.

Another reason is that going up and down hills are great ways to work on proper running form (Pose method of running).

  • Running up hill is a great way to work on learning to pick up your feet rather than pushing off with your toes.
  • Running down hill is a great way to work on high cadence running, i.e., faster foot turnover. The only way I can keep from heel striking and putting on the brakes when I run downhill, is to have a very high cadence…I must pick up my foot immediately as soon as it hits the ground. I really fly down hills…and then I try to carry this same feeling with me as the ground levels off to flat after the hill.
