I read Matt Fitzgerald’s blog…his is one of the best triathlon blogs out there. Today he wrote a blog titled “The Core Challenge”. I expected it to be about training to increase strength in core muscles of the body. But it is really about what it takes to pull off a great Ironman performance.

…the core challenge of Ironman racing is being able to run well off the bike. The swim is the swim. While it’s nice to swim fast, a fast swim won’t get you to your race goal, so there’s only so much time and energy you want to put into improving your swim. The bike is very important, but if you put in the miles, you know what you’re going to get on your Ironman bike leg. You may know that I get my training plans from his “secret” book. I am going to follow the Ironman Level 3 plan for Beach 2 Battleship full iron distance race in November. I am taking two weeks very easy, then will pick that plan up in week 5. This will not be a problem, because I am already trained beyond week 5 of that plan, due to my Rev 3 Tri training.
