It was 65 degrees and sunny today so I went out for a nice long bike ride. I averaged 17.6 mph on the first half of the ride, with a 16.2 mph for the whole 30 mile ride. I wasn’t wearing my heart rate monitor, but I’m guessing I was in the 75-80% range. When I first bought my new bike, I was averaging 14 mph on my 17 mile rides. The best thing I have done is to buy an indoor trainer and do the workouts in the Gale Burnhardt book, plus the DVD that the trainer came with. See my blog about that stuff.

Here are random things I thought about while biking today, in no particular order:

  • Biking is so much fun
  • I love my bike. I look so cool šŸ˜€
  • 11 to 5, 5 to 11, 11 to 5, 5 to 11
  • This 11 to 5 stroke stuff is hard work for the legs. Running will be harder off the bike now.
  • Asshole (some lady in a mini van cut me off.)
  • There’s a guy biking in the opposite direction. He looks like a newbie, so I will wave to him and be friendly.
  • Wow, I’m going 22 mph on a flat! I wonder if it’s a false flat. Damn false flats.
  • Asshole (some idiot in a truck passed me within 6 inches going 50 mph)
  • @#%&%*& hills…why are there so many hills in chapel hill?
