I received another email from the folks at Ironman about the Ironman World Championship race in Kona.

I asked them about the odds of getting in on the lottery. The reply was “Each year, Ironman chooses 200 folks and draws more than 7,000 entries.”

Below is the email…

I just wanted to give you a quick heads up that the 2008 Ironman Lottery is open but the deadline is fast approaching – February 28.

Below is a link to register online.

2008 Ironman Lottery Deadline is Fast Approaching

February 28th marks the last day that athletes can apply for the Ironman
World Championship lottery.

One hundred and fifty of the athletes will be selected from United
States applicants and fifty athletes will be selected from other
countries. Last year, Ironman saw record breaking applicants – over
6,500!

Thanks to the vision of Ironman founder John Collins, who insisted that
a system be maintained to allow the “common man” a chance to compete in
this great race, 200 far-from-common age-groupers will join the rest of
the 1,800 strong in Kailua Bay on October 11, 2008 for the Ford Ironman
World Championship.

Of course not just anyone can apply – athletes who are selected through
the Ironman Lottery must have completed an event that is 70.3 (1.2 Mile,
56 Mile + 13.1 Mile) distance or greater within one year of the 2008
Ford Ironman World Championship to validate his/her lottery slot.
Lottery winners must complete the validating race before August 31, 2008
and all validating information should be received in the Kona Race
Office by August 31, 2008. Entry fee is $35.

Please take a look at the following information and let me know if you have any questions—would be happy to discuss! Thank you very much for your time.
