I’m writing down what I eat today, the day before the Duke 1/2 Iron race … for future reference. I have a bad habit of pigging out on bad carbs before a race or long workout thinking “I need to carbo load”. But, bad carbs just make me feel crappy. So, I’m trying to eat just normally, without the “Be Hungry” philosophy. (I usually try to eat a little less food than I need, to control my weight.)
Last night, I went out to Firebirds for dinner. Yummy. I got a spinach salad and ate half the bread on the table. Then I got sea bass with a mango salsa, asparagus, and mashed potatoes. I only ate half the mashed pototatoes, cuz I was really full. I also had a glass of Pinot Grigio.

I had to take my daughter to a volleyball clinic this morning, and had to kill time, so I went to Panera bread and got some coffee and a bagel. I put light cream cheese on the bagel. It was near Inside Out Sports, so I stopped in there to get some wetsuit repair glue. They don’t sell glue, only some tape stuff. I bought that. I was too early to pick up my race packet, so I’ll just have to do that in the am.

For lunch, I had a salad with water chestnuts and Paul Newman’s sesame ginger dressing. Then I had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich made on a white pita. I used Smart Balance peanut butter. I also had 4 oz. Dannon Activa yogurt.

For a snack, I had a shake made with 50-50 of Enduro RX and Whey protien mix. I like to mix them because the Enduro Rx seems to sugary alone.

For dinner, I had top loin pork roast (lean), broccoli, Uncle Ben’s original rice, and applesauce. I had dinner at 3:30 pm, instead of 6:30 pm. I like to eat an earlier dinner before races, so there’s no heavy meal in my gut race morning.

I’m avoiding too much fiber today.

I ate a granola bar for a snack at 6pm.

Before bedtime (around 10pm) I plan to have a Enduro Rx shake.
