Duke 1/2 Quick Recap

Update: Official Results are in. Considering the depth of field of this race, and the brutal heat, I’m really pleased with my result.

Swim: 39:40, 4 AG
T1: 1:49
Bike: 2:55:53, 3 AG
T2: 2:52
Run: 2:33:03, 4 AG
Overall 6:13:16, 4th AG out of 10 (9 who finished).

No wetsuits. The swim was not choppy – I was disappointed, as I trained so well for choppiness and was really looking forward to that!

My overall time was 6:13, 4th place, 5 minutes behind 3rd. I forgot my polar watch, but based on talking to my swim buddies, Matt and Deb, my swim was about 40 minutes. I know my bike was 2:55 cuz I had the bike computer. Tri bike was awesome! Run sucked due to heat and maybe I went too hard on the bike…but I had alot of fun racing on my new tri bike, so I didn’t care. Even tho my run split probably really sucked, I maintained mental focus and a positive attitude pretty much the whole run, and did the best I could so felt good about it. Beat last year’s overall time by 12 minutes, and most people got worse times due to the heat. Most of that time was gained on the bike. Probably all of it, actually. My feet are totally trashed, and my legs are killing me, so I know I put in a hard run. That run course is still a monster, and I don’t feel like I slayed it this year, but I still feel really good about today’s race.

Congratulations to my friend, Rebecca, on having a super PR race coming in at 5:21! I’m so impressed!

This is one reason I like to do races…I can eat lots of goodies afterwards and not feel like crap because my body NEEDS those calories. Yeah!

Duke bike course is 57.25 miles.

  • Hey great job!!! I thought the bike route was "long" last year as well. I cant wait to read more about the race!!!

  • Even though you went hard on the run, you certainly looked happy out there. Congrats on a great race. And thanks for confirming that that bike was long. I was annoyed when my bike odometer hit 56 miles and we were still a good ways from the finish.

Thank you for mentioning me in your blog :)
