I miss the Solitude

Here is a Haiku for today:

I miss solitude.
No more whining, I am done.
        I blogged this, of course.

I miss the solitude of the open road. Cruising along the hiways and biways of rural North Carolina, alone in my thoughts, not a care in the world. I NEED that.

I am an introvert. Don’t get me wrong, I do like people. Especially all the great people I have met through my triathlon life. However, I like to be alone, and riding my bike gives me alot of alone time. Being around people is actually somewhat stressful for me. In the last ten days I have had alot of stress: driving up to ohio, car breaking down, visiting family (great to see everyone, but absolutely NO alone time). And when I got back, I threw myself into three big work projects. Add “no working out” on top of this, and it leaves me feeling very stressed.

I googled personality profile, and came up with this site about the Sixteen Personality types. I see parts of myself in many of these profiles.

This online quiz told me that I am a…

INFP – The Idealist. This part of the profile definitely fits the bill: “INFPs have very high standards and are perfectionists. Consequently, they are usually hard on themselves, and don’t give themselves enough credit.” If you read my blog regularly, you probably already know this!

I looked at all the “I”, Introvert, types, and two more struck a familiar chord..

INTP – The Thinker is alot like me too: “They see everything in terms of how it could be improved, or what it could be turned into. They live primarily inside their own minds…”. This part made me think of the “Thought” statue that I have blogged about various times in the past. I think, therefore, I am.

ISTP – The Mechanic works too. “ISTPs like and need to spend time alone, because this is when they can sort things out in their minds most clearly.” I get completely lost in my thoughts while riding my bike. And, most often, I am thinking about what to write here on my blog.

I will go on a long walk BY MYSELF this weekend. And, I’m sticking with my off season plan and not riding or running or swimming for the two full weeks. I do feel my body healing all those little aches and pains, so I think this is a good plan. However, I am allowed to do other sports during the second week. Yoga, walking, basketball…here I come!

Update a little later in the day: I was thinking about how I have things alot easier than most of the people throughout the world. I go to bed hungry sometimes because I choose to – for vanity’s sake. Many, many people in the world go to bed hungry because they simply have no food to eat. I have no reason to whine and complain. Time to STFU, Carol!

Update even later in the day: Not only will I stop whining…I’m going to do something positive. My friend, Rebecca, did this sort of thing once.

For every WAH I typed on my BT blog the past week, I donated $5 to the Second Harvest Food bank of Orange County, NC. I counted 14 WAH’s, so that’s $70. That is in lieu of my annual Christmas present to myself. Last year, I bought myself some racing flats.
