I signed up for the City of Oaks 1/2 Marathon which takes place on Nov 6, 2022. Some work friends talked me into it while we were out at a bar. That is what I get for going out drinking with work friends !

So far it’s going great. I printed out a training plan, bought some new running shoes, and am already improving. With each run, my mind is going back to lessons I learned 12 years ago as I ramped up from couch potato to Ironman. I’m planning to start blogging about these newly relearned insights.

Here is one: Proper shoes are key. I have not bought new running shoes for several years. I haven’t really been running, so, I figured no big deal to use old shoes. But I have been going to boot camp which involves some running and lots of impact exercises. Not smart, and I had been having some knee and other lower body joint pains, which kicked into a higher gear once I started running again. So I went to Fleet Feet sports and got a fresh pair, and it makes a huge difference right away on how I feel both during and after running/boot camp
