I did my last hard workout today before my upcoming race on saturday (Kure Beach). I biked 3 miles to a lake, swam about 300 yards, biked another 30 minuites with some 90 second accelerations, then ran 1.25 mile. The first 0.25 of the run was uphill. I went at a moderate pace. The last 1 mile of the run was mostly flat and I went at race pace. I timed it and ran it in 7:26 š
I added the open water swim segment in this brick because I wanted to try out two ideas I have for my race day strategy. Idea #1 is to not worry about rinsing the sand off my feet. I figure for a sprint distance race, gritty feet for bking and running arenāt going to cause any major damange. And idea #2 is to stuff my goggles and cap into the bra of my tri top after the first swim . Kure Beach is a super sprint (swim, run, bike, run, swim). It will save time in the last transition if I already have my cap and goggles with me when running into the transition zone and onto the last swim.
It was no problem not rinsing the sand off my feet. I didnāt notice it at all until I was all done wiht my workout and was walking home. Then I felt gritty feet. No blisters, tho!
It was also no problem having my goggles and cap stuffed into my bra. They didnāt bother me while biking or running, no chaffing or anything. It just looked funkyā¦but if it will save me time in that last transition, Iām willing to look weird!
