Signed up for Beach2Battleship FULL

Well, I’ve taken the plunge toward full iron distance. I am registered for Beach 2 Battleship (B2B) full iron distance race.

Three things have held me back from full iron distance.

1) I didn’t feel ready from an endurance base point of view. I feel ready now.

2) I didn’t think I could find the time to train for it. My friend, Rebecca, tells me I can do a Full Iron on the amount of training I have been doing on my OLY and 1/2 iron races. I hope she is right! I plan on following the Level 1 Iron distance plan from my training plan book.

3) Cost. B2B cost $344.50. I added up all my race fees from 2008. It came out to $533. $533-344=$189 leftover. So, I figure I can still do Duke 1/2 and one shorter race within the same budget as last year. If I want to do more shorter races, I’ll have to sell some stuff on ebay. Not sure yet what else I will do. I definitely want to try to slay the Duke monster again!

Actually, just remembered hotel costs. I guess that will eat up the $189. So, I have to sell stuff on ebay to do ANY more races!

BTW, it’s not 8 am yet, and there are already 100 people registered.

10am: 200 registered for B2B.

8pm Dec 4th (thurs): 297 registered for B2B

Monday, December 16: 337 registered. Guess it’s not selling out quickly like last year. Stupid economy.

December 25: 350 registered.

December 31: 368 registered. Setup Events is disabling participant lists for the next two weeks, so no more updates for a while.

  • Congratulations! You will love the full distance! I really like your blog by the way. I'm a fellow NCTS racer, so maybe I'll see you out there sometime next season!

  • Yes, it sold out in less than a week last year, as a brand new event. It got great reviews, so it will sell out fast. Already, 30% full in just three hours. They did up the number of athletes from 500 to 750.

  • Is this thing predicted to sell out? I am trying to finagle my way into a community fund slot at IronMan Florida 2009, but if I can't do that, maybe I should try B2B.

  • GO CAROL!!!!!!! I am so excited for you. Good choice with the level 1 plan. For the most part, I followed level 1 exactly. The only things I did differently is if I feeling burnt out I skipped some of the shorter stuff during the week. I also did a 3 week taper, instead of a 2 week taper. Stewart Collis used this IM plan and had an amazing performance for his first 140. Congrats on signing up :)
