Bad day on the bike today, despite that my bike wattage test was good. In fact, I was surprised that my coach said my power output on the bike was good, because my legs were feeling dead from my recent 5 mile running race. He said that’s one advantage of having a watt meter – your legs can often put out the power even if they are feeling dead.
Anyway, after the meeting with my coach, I hopped back on my bike trainer for a Spinervals workout. I usually have no trouble staying motivated during Coach Troy’s workouts.
However, 10 minutes into it, my legs were feeling really dead, and I just didn’t want to stick it out. I convinced myself that I needed to burn the calories, so I kept going five more minutes. At that point I said “To hell with it – I’ll just eat less food today.”
I often use burning calories, with it’s benefit of allowing me to eat more food, as a motivator to workout. It’s a rare day that I choose less food over doing a workout.
Update: Problem with choosing less food over working out is that I don’t always succeed in eating less food. That proved true this time. The next day, I didn’t feel like working out either. But I went out for a good solid 6 mile run anyway. I didn’t push myself too hard, as I’m trying to give my legs a rest.
