Back in September, the good folks at Sof Sole sent me a box of goodies to try out. I’ve given these insoles and socks a good workout, and now here are my thoughts.

Carol’s Review

womens_athlete.jpgThese gel insoles are what recently inspired me to finally write this review. I love these gel insoles! I actually put them aside at first thinking “what do I need gel insoles for”. But recently, my training shoes passed the 300 mile mark and I’ve had some minor sciatica after my long runs. That’s when I know it’s time for a new pair of shoes. The problem is, I don’t know what shoes to buy any more. My trainers, as most running shoes, are designed for heel strikers with lots of support in the heel, but not much in the forefoot. For the past year, I have been working hard to land on the balls of my feet. Since my shoes don’t have much padding there, I do have some pain in my forefoot after long runs.

I didn’t want to buy new shoes, not knowing what to get. So, I removed the original insole from my shoes, and replaced them with the Sof Sole gel insoles and went on my long run. Voila! No sciatica pain. No forefoot pain. They have given extra life to my old running shoes. If you think about it, spending $20 to extend the life of a $100 shoe is well worth it. That’s probably not what the folks at Sof Sole intended, but it works for me 🙂 And, when I do eventually buy a new pair of running shoes, I will put these gel inserts into them to add better protection to my forefoot.

Additional Notes:
I also tried them in my racing flats, but do not like the gel insoles in those shoes. When wearing racing flats, I want to have that barefoot feeling, and the gel insoles took that away because of all the cushioning.

Adding the gel insoles took up a bit more room in my shoes as compared to the original insole, so I had to loosen the laces a bit.

I actually gave these insoles to my 17 year old daughter, who is on her feet all day at cosmetology school. She likes to wear fashionable skimmer-style shoes, which have absolutely no support whatsoever! She was complaining about her feet hurting her after a long day at school. After wearing these Adapt Insoles, she said “Mom, these are so comfy, my feet feel great!”. She is still wearing them several months later, and swaps them out between different shoes.

Carol’s Review

In the days leading up to my ‘A’ race last October, Pinehurst, I spent alot of time experimenting with what socks to wear. I knew from past experience that I need socks in an OLY distance race! I decided to wear these Sof Sole Energy socks. They are made of a soft, comfortable wicking material. They stay put (IOW, they don’t bunch down into my shoe!). No chaffing in these socks, in part, thanks to the extra little flap in the back of the sock. The clincher that made me choose these socks for my ‘A’ race was speed. They were the fastest sock to put on my feet, and I wanted to save seconds whereever I possibly could. I had a great race that day, and was glad I wore these socks.

I actually went to the store to buy more of them, but could not find them. I guess you have to order them online.
