I drove my daughter and her friend to the ocean today for a beach daytrip. I brought my wetsuit so I could try it out. I hadn’t ever swam in it, and wanted to make sure that it felt comfortable.

The water temperature was 67 degrees. I was worried that my arms, feet and face would be freezing! I’m generally a real wimp with cold water. In fact, the pool I swim in is 80 degrees, and I have trouble getting into it.

One more bit of background before I get to the details of how it went… I bought this suit on ebay last fall. The size range said it fits women 125-144 pounds. At the time, I weighed about 146 pounds, and I couldn’t get it up past my thighs. I was highly motivated to lose a few more pounds. I now weigh 136 pounds, and I am able to sqeeze into it. It still feels really tight. I have a long torso, and swim suits always feel too tight on the shoulders and neck area. The wetsuit feels really tight in the neck, almost a choking feeling. I was worried it would bother me swimming.

Now to how it went: It went great. I didn’t feel cold at all. I felt like I was swimming on top of the water because of the bouyancy that the wetsuit provides, and I didn’t notice the tight neck at all while swimming. I had forgotton to bring some lube to put on my legs to aid in quickly pulling the suit off, but still had no trouble getting it off quickly. I feel really good about my upcoming race, White Lake Sprint. It’s only 18 days away!
